There are many areas of the family budget that can be impacted by a cancer diagnosis. The organizations listed here have been known to provide financial assistance for a variety of needs, including co-pay obligations, lodging expenses, childcare costs, and more.

Please note: We are learning that many of the resources listed may not currently offer financial assistance due to a lack of funding. We continue to list them as they do provide other support services beyond financial assistance that may be of benefit.

Triage Health

Triage Health

Triage Health, a program of Triage Cancer, provides free education on the legal and practical issues related to navigating a chronic or serious medical condition.

Triage Health has extensive free resources for individuals diagnosed with a chronic or serious medical condition, caregivers, and health care professionals, on the legal and practical issues that may arise after a diagnosis. Free animated videos, Quick Guides & Checklists, state laws, and other resources that may be helpful are available on their website. Their free resources are applicable to anyone with a serious medical condition, or the general public.

A Helping Hand

A Helping Hand is CancerCare's search tool to help individuals with a cancer diagnosis find assistance from organizations providing financial or practical help.

Federal student loan payments - Deferment and Forbearance

Alert! The U.S. Department of Education has made available a new cancer treatment deferment form. Borrowers who are undergoing cancer treatment may request a deferment of their federal student loan payments. A deferment or forbearance allows you to temporarily stop making your federal student loan payments or to temporarily reduce the amount you pay. Find out if you qualify for a deferment or forbearance.

CancerCare

CancerCare helps individuals and families better cope with and manage the emotional and practical challenges arising from cancer. Our services–for patients, survivors, loved ones, caregivers, and the bereaved–include counseling and support groups, educational publications and workshops, and financial assistance. Triage Cancer

Triage Cancer® is a national, nonprofit organization that provides free education on legal and practical issues that may impact individuals diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers, through events, materials, and resources. The Legal & Financial Navigation Program offers one-on-one help with issues such as work, health and disability insurance, finances, and estate planning. CancerFinances.org is an online toolkit to help people manage finances after a cancer diagnosis. 

Cancer Financial Assistance Coalition

The Cancer Financial Assistance Coalition (CFAC) is a coalition of organizations helping cancer patients manage their financial challenges. CFAC educates patients and providers about existing resources and links to other organizations that can provide additional assistance.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has opened their LLS Patient Aid Program, which provides financial assistance to blood cancer patients in active treatment. Eligible patients will receive a one-time $100 stipend to help offset expenses. There are no income criteria to qualify for this program.

HealthWell Foundation

The HealthWell Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to addressing the needs of individuals with insurance who cannot afford their copayments, coinsurance, and premiums for important medical treatments. Lymphoma Research Foundation

The Lymphoma Research Foundation offers a Patient Aid Grant Program that provides limited financial assistance to lymphoma patients who are uninsured or have adequate medical insurance but struggle to pay for expenses related to their lymphoma treatment, such as medical bills, transportation costs to get to and from treatment, lodging expenses during treatment and childcare costs while they are at treatment. Patient Access Network Foundation - FundFinder

The Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation has launched FundFinder, a web-based app designed to help you quickly find available financial assistance for chronic, rare and life-threatening illnesses. We often hear that the search for financial assistance is time consuming. Over the last year, PAN developed FundFinder to reduce the time it takes to monitor the status of disease funds across charitable patient assistance foundations.

When you use FundFinder, you can sign up for instant email or text message notifications to learn when financial assistance becomes available for a specific disease at eight charitable patient assistance foundations—eliminating the need to manually monitor their websites.

Cancer Support Community

The Cancer Support Community (CSC) is an international nonprofit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer. Likely the largest employer of psychosocial oncology mental health professionals in the United States, CSC offers a menu of personalized services and education for all people affected by cancer. Its global network brings the highest quality cancer support to the millions of people touched by cancer.
