Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundaiton Recognized in Prominent Global Medical Journal

The editors of the prestigious Journal of Investigative Dermatology have recognized the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation, and its contribution to patient advocacy, in the July, 2010 edition of the Journal.

In an editorial entitled “Patient Advocacy Groups:  Let’s Stick Together” the editors include a special notation, thanking Foundation President and Co-Founder Judy Jones for her contributions to their three-page piece.  Jones is also the President of the Coalition of Skin Diseases.  The editorial, written by noted dermatologists Tamar Nijsten and Paul R. Bergstresser, highlights advocacy groups for their psychological support, patient and physician education, lobbying efforts, research stimulation and assistance in the search for cures.

Distributed worldwide by The Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology publishes papers describing original research on all aspects of cutaneous biology and skin disease. The Society for Investigative Dermatology primarily serves the research component of dermatology.  However, advocacy is an important part of what they do.  They have created a strong collaboration with the Coalition of Skin Diseases to increase awareness of the burden of skin disease and increase funding for the research that may one day cure skin disease.  Paul Bergstressser, MM, Editor-in-Chief of the JID has designated 1010 “The Year of the Patient”.
